QT Parted installed but won't run

Asked by Berry Greene

Newbie who has a long way to go.
This is my second attempt to get an answer to this problem. If I have done, or are doing something wrong here, please just tell me. Here's the question again:-

Question to UBUNTU FORUM-20Dec09
Installed dual boot to partitioned 1TB HDD boot drive. UBUNTU installed OK as part of the dual boot option. Windows XP Pro allocated 10GB for itself, no choices. Both are running OK - but 10GB not enough space for Windows XP nearly full.

1) Therefore I want to extend the partition Can it be extended?

2) Which method / software to use? I was advised to use QTPARTED which I downloaded & installed.

3) Appears in APPLICATION > SYSTEM TOOLS > QTPARTED but will not RUN

4) Get response: - "Could not launch menu item - Failed to execute child process "QTPARTED root" No such file or directory

5) Please tell me where any answer might/will appear or give me a clue about what I should do next.

In anticipation, I commend & thank thee.

Berry

You can shrink your ubuntu partition and add freee space to the Windows with your ubuntu live Cd or with Gparted Live CD.I will use second option because Gparted is good tool and it is small download. You can download it from http://gparted.sourceforge.net/

Sorry for long delay. 'flu' - Xmas - Ubuntu - UK weather not helping!
Now have Live CD of Gparted as suggested and this boots but eventually hangs up with "Outside Frequency Range" revolving on screen. Only escape is re-power.
Have some info about driving this package in UBUNTU manual by William von Hagen. I am wary if not scared.
Any help here appreciated. Must not spoil my existing dual boot installations - Windows XP & Ubuntu which both run but need much wider partition for Windows.

Right - job done! Thanks for the pointers.
Backed up both systems as shadows to large ext HDD
Deleted HKeys in Windows for both affected drives first.
Ran GParted - (choose 1 for display) to avoid snag above
Resized (shrink) & moved UBUNTU to 50Gb leaving 200MB preceding (to accomodate Windows)
Extended/resized Windows to 200Gb {I do a lot of video and Pinnacle wants it there. Huge files}
Rebooted - Windows sorts out new Keys and asks for another boot.
All keys restored OK. All looks fine so far!
Rebooted UBUNTU - A-OK
Thanks for the help. GParted is, just as you said, a very good tool.
