Gnome Partition Editor not appearing in Administration menu

Asked by Lachlan Summer

Hi,

I've just installed Ubuntu for the first time, with Version 9.04. I wiped my old XP OS (deliberately) to start afresh. Now I would like to free some space and re-install XP afresh on a new partition.

The Ubuntu Help Center under section 2.3.1 it says to use System -> Administration-> Gnome Partition Editor. However Gnome Partition Editor does not appear on this menu (or anywhere else I can find).

I used Applications -> Add/Remove to download and install Gnome Partition Editor (it was originally unchecked). However after doing so, the program still does not appear on any menu I can see. I do not know how to access it otherwise.

Any help with accessing Gnome Partition Editor (or with re-installing XP to dual boot on Ubuntu) would be very much appreciated. I am not a 'power user'.

Cheers

L

To view the Partition Editor under the menu System → Administration → Partition Editor
Please logout from current session and login again... or better open a terminal from menu Applications→Accessories→Terminal and type:

killall gnome-panel

But to resize a partition, a partition must not be in use (mounted) so if you want to resize the Ubuntu partition please boot your pc entirely from the Ubuntu Desktop Live cd and use the Partition Editor ( Live cd has already Partititon Editor installed and ready to use under the System → Administration → Partition Editor menu )

Hope this helps
