Uninstall ubuntu problem with hard drive

Asked by Jim Hill

I'm having a problem with XP and I need to do a clean re-install on it. I have Ubuntu runniing on the same machine. How do I remove the Ubuntu installation so that I can start over with a clean XP install? Unfortunately, I have to have XP for a certain program that I must run. That program won't run in Ubuntu or I would just get rid of XP.

Thanks,
Jim

One of the joys of having a dual-boot system is that you can completely wipe one of the OS's off and completely delete it's partition and yet leave the working Ubuntu one intact! You can keep using the Ubuntu until the Xp is eventually ready for fully enjoying.

Good luck with this

Dual-boots are definitely better than either OS on its own. Even tho i'm hardly ever in Xp i still have it available for when i want it.

You can delete the whole Xp partition from within Ubuntu while watching a movie or something. It's great. Just go up to the top taskbar and click on

System - Administration - Partition Editor

and if it's not there it's fairly quick to install it from Synaptic in the same sub-menu. Just use one of the search tools to look for "Gparted".

Good luck and regards from

Viruses and things that affect Windows are completely inert in linux so they can't travel across and cause harm :)
