Gparted

Asked by peter

Hi

I've a question regarding Gparted.

Three partitions are listed:
/dev/sda1 as ext3
/dev/sda2 as extended
/dev/sda5 as linux-swap

All the entries in the menu Partition are disabled. I can't delete or create a partition. Whats the reason for this? Thanks a lot.
Peter

This is because those partitions are currently mounted. To unmount a partition in gparted, simply right click on the partition and select "unmount".

Be careful of course ;)

I'm guessing that you're trying to get the linux-swap out of the extended partition. it does work a lot better as a primary partition but if you have over 1Gb of Ram then you probably don't need it at all.

If you cannot unlock or umount the partitions then you might need to use a LiveCd of a tiny distro such as Wolvix which uses a lot less ram even than Ubuntu

Good luck with this
