Need to format my hard drive and reload OS.

Asked by Jerry Smith

In the GNOME help inst., the first instruction was to "go to system-click Admin-Partition editor." when I go to my system and then to Administration, there isn't any Partition editor on there. I need to re-format my hard drive and reload the OS. How can I do that? I want to completely erase the HD and format it as if I was installing a new HD.

Do you have Disk Utility installed? If not, do a search for "gnome-disk-utility" in aptitude.

Downloaded gparted and couldn't get it to come up. Am using Ubuntu on one computer and on another. My daughter doesn't like Ubuntu, so she says. I am running it on my laptop and love it. She wants me to delete U from hers and reinstall (uugggg) windows on it. I have an open version on XPpro (with key) but can't cover U with it. How do I open gparted on her computer and delete it and install xp?

Gparted will not come up under applications - go to[ system>administration>]Gparted will show up there if it really installed. You can also install it from synaptic package manger if the command line did not work out.

I guess it didn't install, I Downloaded it and it showed that it is there, but can't open it. Not sure just how to do it. All other dl's open with the download manager. I'm new to Ubuntu and am learning how to dl and open and use what I dl. Where would I find synaptic package manager?

Jerry, use the Ubuntu software centre to install gparted. You mention the download manager, but downloading gparted from some web site is not the way to install. The ubuntu software centre is the way.
