Trying to partition hard drive. Installed Gparted, but says read only?

Trying to partition my hard drive. I installed Gparted, but it says read only and does not seem to work. What should I do?

Usually when the partitions have errors please performs partitions checks...

To work on a partition, you must firstly unmount it.
The swap and the partition which holds "/" and "/home" folder can't be unmounted if you boot from hard disk. For those ones, you must boot on Ubuntu CD/USB stick, and choose "Try without install".
