Kubuntu disk partitioning for setup alongside WinXP

Asked by comeondoncole

Hello, I have WinXP SP3 and Kubuntu 10.10 on dual-boot.

I am trying to re-partition the hard drive to allocate a larger swap file for Kubuntu 10.10 operation.

The hard drive is 500 GBytes with WinXP having most of the hard drive space.

I would like to give each OS at least around 200 plus GBytes or so of approximately equal hard drive space.

Is this possible and, if so, can anyone help me on this matter...Thank you.

Doing firstly a BACKUP is a very good idea.
If you have a laptop, plug it to wall's plug.
Don't hibernate Windows (neither Ubuntu) but do a clean shutdown.
After that, boot on Ubuntu CD
Choose "Try without installing"
System->Administration->Gparted and resize/move the partitions.
These operations can be very long. Never stop one of these operations.

Can you help with this problem?
