System->Administration->Packet Management (Synaptic)
enter "gparted" in search window
install packet

System->Administration->Gparted
select USB key and change label

Thanks for the help. I downloads Gparted did as requested. I can not get it to work I press label but am not able to change it. Either with usb active or turned off. I all appears to be quite simpl so I must be doing something wrong but can not see what it would be. Thanks for your help anyway.

Did you unmount partition ?

No idea. It works on my computer on USB key and drive, both with FAT32 and ext4. Don't see potential error.
