Daemon is inhibited?

I am reformatting an internal hard drive into an external. Have already wiped the disk. was trying to partition when I got this error:
Daemon is inhibited. Have I done something wrong?

It sounds like gparted has not released the lock on the disk. Without further information it is not clear why, and may not even be pertinent to getting your task completed.

I assume you tried rebooting, and trying again? Is the disk currently an internal or external disk (i.e. have you already taken it out and put it in a new chassis?)

Ok, tried re-booting and now gparted nor disk utility can even find the external drive. Yes I have already taken it out and put it in a new chassis.
