How can I re- format an internal harddrive?

I have a SATA wd3200bevs-26vato 2.5 internal hard drive that I want to use as an external back-up. I have everything to connect it. Not sure how to completely re-format it. (noob to ubuntu 10.10)

Use gparted, it's in the system menu. If it isn't then install it in any way you are ok with
