Not able to do partitioning plus two more after installing Ubuntu Lucid Lynx

Asked by manoj

I have a Sony Vaio VGNCR343 laptop that came with Windows Vista Business. But after doing a trial of Ubuntu thru dual booting, I have clean installed it on the 180 Gb partition I had. Now I want to make partitions for keeping some data, etc. but I am not able to do that.. I have "Gparted" installed, but when i select the partition for unmount.. it says that it can't be done..

i am fixed up with this.

also, i have another problem that my camera(inbuilt), microphone and fingerprint reader are not working.. I searched for proprietry hardware but could not find any.. tried installing "cheese" for camera but its not working.. for fingerprint i downloaded UPEK drivers for ubuntu thru software center, but its not working still..

another issue is that, sometimes when i run ubuntu sotware center or update manager, the system crashes suddenly.. this also happens sometimes after starting the system without any errors..i have already done the memory tests and it succeeded without any failures..

my laptop details are, 180 Gb HDD, 3 Gb RAM, Intel Core2Duo 1.80 Ghz, alongwith camera and fingerprint reader.
Thanks

About the first question: You are trying to umount the root partition, where the whole system is running: it couldn't be done. You can use a LiveCD or a flash USB to run the GParted, umount the root partition, resize it and create a new partition for your data.

Abot the third: I don't know what's that, but it could be a bug. Search for it here, in the Launchpad!
