i just instaled ubuntu 10.04 now i chose the option the entire disc now i need to split it how can i do it

Hi...

You could use the install media, boot it into the live environment and under the desktop menu System / Administration / use Gparted to shrink the existing volume. Its rather safe and uncomplicated, but ALWAYS backup your data just in case.

If you have just installed you can reinstall but use custom partitioning. If you are resizing to dual boot with windows then install windows FIRST and it makes life a whole bunch easier.

A seperate /home partition can be very beneficial also.
