Googlizer does not give Google search results

Asked by Chris Sherrell

After selecting text and left clicking on the Googlizer icon in the launcher a Chromium browser is spawned (which is what I expected). What should then happen is that Google results should be shown in the browser. What happens is that no Google results are shown in the browser.
Googlizer was working in 11.04. It stopped working after I upgraded to 11.10. I have tried removing the application and then reinstalling it, but to no avail. It makes no difference whether I login using Unity 2D or Unity 3D.
Except for Googlizer not working, everything else seems to be working OK after the upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10.

Andrew - I'm unsure what you mean by a new user.

Make a new user, log in as the new user. Test there. What else could it mean....

I made a new user and logged in as the new user. Googlizer worked as expected. Logged out of new user and logged in as original user - Googlizer still did not work as expected.

Then it's the settings for the app in your users $HOME. If you delete the folder holding the config and reuse the app, it will generate vanilla settings. You can use your new user to see where the folder is maybe.

I looked for the folder holding the config settings for the Googlizer in my users $HOME but did not find anything. Is the following any use?

chris@ubuntu:~$ find / -name '*googlizer*' 2>/dev/null
/usr/share/menu/googlizer
/usr/share/app-install/icons/googlizer.png
/usr/share/app-install/desktop/googlizer:googlizer.desktop
/usr/share/pixmaps/googlizer.png
/usr/share/pixmaps/googlizer.xpm
/usr/share/doc/googlizer
/usr/share/man/man1/googlizer.1.gz
/usr/share/applications/googlizer.desktop
/usr/bin/googlizer
/var/cache/apt/archives/googlizer_0.3-3ubuntu1_i386.deb
/var/lib/dpkg/info/googlizer.list
/var/lib/dpkg/info/googlizer.postinst
