Google Earth runs fine in Ubuntu. It's just that it's not free and open source software, so it can't be included in the repositories.

It's not too difficult to get it going. Go here:
http://www.google.com/earth/download/ge/agree.html

Download the version that suits your CPU and release. When it asks what you want to do with the package, tell it to use the Gdebi installer. Sit back and wait for it to download and install. It will also get all the dependancies, so no other work needs to be done.

Before you do this, you might want to delete/erase any other GoogleEarth icons, install, launchers on the desktop etc. If you've got some broken ones there they won't be removed by the new install and will only cause you some confusion.
