for hassle free and automatic installation of google earth,

go into software sources that is under system>administration and click the 2nd tab then click on the canonical partners choices.

from the desktop, press CTL+ALT+T to get into terminal

then type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install google-earth

enter your password when asked. your password will not show on the screen.

google earth will be downloaded and automatically installed for you. you will find it under Internet

Hello Ignacio,
I downloaded Googleearth using synaptic package manager.

Then opened a terminal window;
Then typed:

sudo apt-get update
A LOT of messages flew up the window and then command prompt reappeared;

Then typed:
sudo apt-get upgrade
A FEW of messages flew up the window and then command prompt reappeared;

Then typed:
Then typed:
sudo apt-get install google-earth
It stated it couldn't find package
sudo apt-get install googleearth
It stated it couldn't find package

So is it possible to get Google Earth program on my Ubuntu 10.04 machine?

Second question;
Why can't I copy text in my terminal window and then paste into this window?
It surely would speed up asking questions!

Third question;
I can put following in a separate message if you prefer.

How does one handle a .tar file?

I had the same experience when I tried to install Google Earth using the terminal.

Can you help with this problem?
