using an OCR application with gui

I would like to use an OCR application with a GUI if possible. I have upgraded to 9.10 and installed ocroplus using the Synaptic Manager. I scan using XSane but when I try to save it, it tells me there is no gocr directory, "failed to execute command"
Do I have to make a Directory or is there one already available somewhere? I then want to transfer the text Document to Open Office
