Can a packaged build be made for Precise repository?

Asked by jashsu

There are currently packaged builds for Quantal (12.10) and Raring (13.04), but no packaged build for Precise (12.04 LTS). For the benefit of LTS users, can a packaged build be made for that release as well?

Have you checked for a PPA?

I believe there is a PPA available, but it would be preferable to not have to rely on a PPA for software that is typically available in the default repos.

Then I suggest you report a bug. If there are significant bug fixes etc it will be updated

According to Debian Bug http://bugs.debian.org/653749 the version 3.2.2.dfsg-1 is "grossly out of date and buggy" and has been removed from Debian.

It seems strange to me that based on on that Debian decision, the package has been removed from ubuntu Precise only, but is still available for Lucid and Oneiric.

For Quantal and Raring the version in Ubuntu is 3.6.1-1.

In my opinion an adequate solution would be to provide a 3.6.1+ release for precise - to be requested either as SRU or as backport, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports

Posting that here does nothing. Report a bug and post it the text there as additional data

Thanks for the tip Manfred. I've filed a backport request bug to the Precise Backports project.
