Removable Drives and Media doesn't let me tell F-Spot not to launch when a USB drive containing photos is inserted

Asked by Omegamormegil

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

When I insert a USB drive with pictures on it, F-Spot automatically starts, and I don't want it to. Removable Drives and Media Preferences lets me choose what to do when I connect a digital camera, but not when I plug in a USB drive containing photos. I don't see an option to change this in F-Spot either.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs .

You can disable this by opening your file browser (Nautilus), then going to Edit -> Preferences and selecting the 'Media' tab in the window that opens. You can then change the action for 'Photos' to 'Do Nothing', 'Open Folder' or 'Ask what to do'

Thanks for the help Chris, but the issue is not that I didn't know how to disable this feature, but that I can't do it through "Removable Drives and Media".

How is it not a bug that "Removable Drives and Media" lets me control actions related to Digital Cameras but not UBS SD Card Readers?

It looks like I should have been more specific in the bug report. Really it's just a feature request, as I imaging it's working the way the designers intended it to.

It is a bug because it's completely counter-intuitive that two completely separate interfaces in the GUI control very similar pieces of functionality.

I see now that Removable Drives and media is specifically a GUI frontend for the settings in gconf>desktop>gnome>volume_manager, but from a user's prospective, it makes no sense to have separate places in the GUI to control similar kinds of actions.

I'm going to resubmit the bug report after coming up with a clearer way of describing the problem I'm reporting. Thanks again for you help.
