      too get my updates they say i need this dpkg --configure --a i can,t grt it in

Open a Terminal from Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type
sudo dpkg --configure --a
then give your user password (you don't see any char when you type it) then press enter

I think you mean, and you must type:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
