Tu pregunta está en la ayuda de Ubuntu. Sistema » ayuda y soporte. Se abrirá el centro de ayuda de Ubuntu. Ahí tienes una introducción sobre cómo instalar aplicaciones.

If youn want to install new software you souldh go to Aplications -> Software Center, search the software you want and install it.

Go to System -> Administration -> Syanptic and select the software and apply the changes.

Download the package with the software (.deb) and install it with Gdebi.
