I want to edit my /etc/apt/sources.list how and where do I get the additional permissions, I am the administrator and sole user?

I need get my update manager, synaptic software manager to work again how do I edit my sources.list
What permissions do I need to change?
E: Type '“deb' is not known on line 46 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list

go to the Ubuntu terminal

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

or press atl+f2 and type gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
