You need to enter the address in the format "ftp://user:<email address hidden>/", otherwise Firefox uses anonymous FTP.

Or you could install a proper FTP client such as FileZilla - it's in the Software Center.

If you're running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic), go to Applications > Ubuntu Software Center, then search for FileZilla and install it.

If you're running 9.04 or older, go to System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager, then search for FileZilla and install it.

Most FTP clients, including FileZilla, store your site logins so you can connect to them by choosing from a list. It allows multiple transfers at once as well as dragging and dropping files. These are Windows screenshots, but you get the idea: http://filezilla-project.org/client_screenshots.php.

Don't download it from their website, use the instructions I gave above.

My bad, there are Linux screenshots on that page but I didn't see them at first.

You can also just use the File->connect to server feature of the file browser.

Can you help with this problem?
