cannot switch off PC in Ubuntu, there are logic blocks

Asked by andrewszepessy

1) Recently downloaded Ununtu 9.10, in hope of activating use of SKYPE, etc - (which I was unable to do in KIWILINUX). Download signaled as being successful - however it proved impossible to switch off PC in Ubuntu - In order to witch off, I have to press soft restart button & log into Windows & switch off from there. About 5 or 6 "logic blocks" are given as the reasons for Ubuntu being unable to switch off. Naturally, I would be very happy to be able to switch off my PC directly from Ubuntu 9.10.
2) This morning, I signed into Gnome terminal "speech something-or-other", but now get messages of which the gist seems to be, "ORCA - Windows something-or-other is masquerading as something it is not" - From what I can remember in my non-software writer senility, this something is - a "flag something-or-other". I have no idea what problems this may or may not cause. However, working on the theory that every little step towards perfection is one step nearer the paradise of a trouble-free PC, I am reporting what the software has signalled to me. Can you help?

Hi,
Orca is the firewall which is built to go with Ubuntu (and others).
It is detecting an attack on you in the form of a masquerade.
It is probably nothing to worry about as Linux is not so susceptible as windows.
It's worth mugging up on.

Good luck with skype

Phil
