how do i set CLOCK TIME to the real thing

i want to find and display US STANDARD TIME , as per the US STANDARD TIME CLOCK, to display on the upper Ubuntu panel in its normal "TIME" spot.

     Well, not exactly, you don't (I don't think). But what you want is obtained under "System->Administration->Time and Date. Use the Unlock button (with your password) and set your location according to the nearest city or time zone listed. This will set your clock to the correct time in your time zone in the U.S.
