When typing lowercase 'a' in terminal it registers as a tab.

Asked by Teulon

When using Terminal I cannot type the lowercase letter 'a'. When pressing this key it always sends a tab character. I have attempted to copy/paste the letter but that does not work wither.

This started about a week ago and I have not been able to figure out what is going on. I am able to type 'a' in other applications with no issues and uppercase A registers without a problem. I have changed my keyboard layout, saved and then switched back to no avail.

Does anyone have suggestions on what I should try? I update my system daily so I am running the latest packages available.

Thanks for any help.

May be you should look at the character encoding of the Terminal? Look in nthe terminal menu under "Terminal-->Set Character encoding" if there is a strange type of encoding.

I just checked and the only encoding I have is "Unicode UTF-8". I also downloaded another terminal program called Terminator, the same thing happens with that application.

All I can say is that others faced this problem: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/260962

Can you help with this problem?
