trying to change the root in terminal

Asked by pierre

I am a new user to Gnome and Linux. I need to change the user to ksedu or sudo in the terminal in order to be able to make changes within the Adept Manager, but it says that I need to change the "root" first. Could you explain this process of what I need to type in the terminal, so that I don't mess everything up?

have you tried using the root terminal directly.

you can add this to your installation using add/ remove applications and launch directly you'll find it in system tools.

Alternatively, you can just run su inside the terminal and type the root password. then the terminal window will be running root privillages, be careful with root.....

I am new to this. I can access terminal but I need to know what to type to be able to change the User Privileges - I think I need to start a root shell (so that I can run root commands) to be able to have access to Adept Manager.

What you just said is greek, as I have not had to use DOS commands in over 15 years.

I'm now unable to open the terminal, and I inadvertently clicked on "I solved this problem"

Pierre, you are talking about Gnome, but adept is the default packet manager for Kubuntu.
For Gnome is the Synaptic Package Manager.
In any case, just choosing it from the menu it will ask for a password and you will be then using it as a superuser.

Can you help with this problem?
