I want to upgrade my ubuntu version to 14.04

My ubuntu version is very tiny, specifically meant for school use, lacking several facilities. Now I want to upgrade it to ubuntu 14.04 . I am afraid higher version is not compatible to the hardware

Support for Ubuntu 14.04 has ended a few weeks ago, unless you pay for Extended Security Maintenance (a paid option to get extended support and security updates for selected server packages).

Why do you think that your hardware would be incapable of running a higher version?
