New install problem with graphics Radeon x300

I am band new to Ubuntu. I am working on a Dell Inspiron 6000 with a Mobility Radeon x300 graphics card. I did a fresh install and am having problems with the graphics on my system. The graphics are running slowly and pixilated. I was hoping someone could help me out with this.

first thing i though on is that you need to activate the readon grafik driver
2. thing is proberly a need to update the driver from http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.HTML
