Hi Faisal,

I usually using Pidgin as Yahoo Messenger. Try that one, you will love it. Simple and a lot of things you can do with it. And you can online with Google Talk at the same time. I'm sure, pidgin will install as a default messenger after you install your ubuntu.

Just to follow up on what Luky Winarto has said.

To configure a Yahoo connection in Pidgin, do the following:

1. Open Pidgin (Applications -> Internet -> Pidgin Internet Messenger)

2a. If this is the first time you have run Pidgin, it will start with the Accounts window and a Welcome message. Click the Add+ button to add your Yahoo Messenger account.

2b. If you have opened Pidgin in the past, it will probably open to the status bar up by the Time in the upper right hand corner. In that case, click on the Pidgin icon and Select Accounts -> Manage Accounts from the buddy window.

3. In the Add Account Window on the Basic tab, Choose Yahoo from the drop down Protocol list.

4. Add your Yahoo username to the Username field.

5. Add your Yahoo password to the Password field and check whether you want to save the password or not. If you don't check that box, you'll have to enter your password every time that you launch Pidgin.

You should now be able to login to your Yahoo Messenger account using Pidgin.

The nice thing about Pidgin is that you can have it check other Instant messaging systems as Luky pointed out. So if you have friends that use AOL or MSN Messenger you can set up accounts on those systems and be able to talk to them all from one program.

I hope this helps.
