bash: /home/tor/Desktop/hplip-2.8.10.run.tar.gz: Permission deniedWHY?

Asked by thomas

hello, I went through admin user groups permission process and permission is denied can you help? Attempting to get hp3380 printer working. Downloaded tar file from hp site and ended with hplip-2.8.10.run file which was then converted to a .tar file. Tried both in gnome terminal, permission denied

In a terminal, change directory (cd) to the location of your downloaded file (hplip-2.8.10.run) and type "sh hplip-2.8.10.run".
Select "a" for automatic.

Please be a little more descriptive with what you are doing and have done. Also, use a little more intelligible summary.

Follow these steps.........
cd
cd Desktop
sudo chown tor:tor hplip-2.8.10.run.tar.gz
tar zxf hplip-2.8.10.run.tar.gz
chmod +x hplip-2.8.10.run
./hplip-2.8.10.run

Select "a" for automatic.

I don't know if this is any more help than the previous post - but it is line by line.

You seem to have made a few mistakes with your commands - therefore I recommend that you start all over.

Go to this URL and download the file "hplip-2.8.10.run" (NOT the tar.gz file):

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html

If you have your downloads organised so that they go onto your Desktop, in a terminal type:
cd Desktop
then type:
sh hplip-2.8.10.run
There will be a few questions, one of which will give you the option to install automatically. That option is "a".
At the end of the installation you will have to "Reboot".

Hello, The software is now installed! I have the GUI and so forth on my screen. Great Thanks. However the printer runs blank paper with no print. It was working back with windows. I shook the printer ink supply/capsule. It seems full. Reloading the original hp software, perhaps. Happy holiday everyone thomas

Try activating "Print Test Page" or "Clean Cartridges". Both options are available via the HP Device Manager.
Perhaps the contacts have dried out.

Since your original question has been solved would you please mark this accordingly.

New issue: hp 3380 copies well but print jobs won't print. Blank pages come out of the printer until I push cancel button. No print on the page. The first page comes out with the message: %!PS Adobe-3.0 %%Creator: (Open Office 2.4)...

Is this an issue with OO2.4? Thanks, Thomas
