Can't Updates of Linux

Asked by GRALLIEN

Bonjour,
I have Linux version 8.04 mixed with Windows XP but I am a new user of Linux and I hesitate to work inside the terminal without precise informations.
I can't make the updates which are proposed because I have the answer :
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
So I tape what Marcobra proposed and I have got from my terminal the following answer :
 command not found
what can I do?
Thank you for your Help

Hi,

Please send us the output of the following 4 commands:

sudo dpkg --configure -a

(Note the spaces between sudo, dpkg, --configure and -a)

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install -f
sudo aptitude dist-upgrade

Regards,

To correct this problem just open Terminal (Applications → Accessories → Terminal) and type:
sudo dpkg --configure -a

Give your user password when requested. You will not see anything, but type it and press enter.

Then retry to update and/or to install desired package.
