installing the driver for lexmark x1180

Asked by LarryB

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

I have been trying to follow the procedure on Ubuntu forums to install the driver for my Lexmark X1180 all-in-one. However, when I start up Terminal the commands listed in the forum do not work. For example "tar" returns the error message:
Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

I am using version 8.4

you do have the tar utility installed.
the syntax is "tar xvf xyz.tar", replace xyz.tar with the tarball you actually want to extract
the error message you're getting is merely saying that you gave tar as a target a file that doesn't exist

Sorry, I'm pretty new to Ubunto so I haven't a clue what you mean by "tarball".

no, my bad. a tarball is simply a file ending with .tar
what is the forum you are following to install the driver?
at which step do you get stuck?

The model number Lexmark X1180 does not seem to be correct.

Method 1:
You may refer to the below links and use the troubleshooters. Check if it lists and helps resolve any issues: Open the Printer troubleshooter:
http://support.lexmark.com

Method 2:
You may check if you have the latest drivers installed for the device. You may refer to the below link for getting the latest drivers and check
http://www.lexmarkdrivers.net/all-in-one-printers/lexmark-x1180-driver.html

Good Luck.
