Open up the disk usage analyzer
Applications->Accessories->disk usage analyzer
This will tell you how full your hard drive is.

Open Places in the Gnome Menu (if you're on gnome)
then select Computer
right click on Filesystem (or the Disk you want to examine)
Select Properties.

wait.. (oh.. this leads to another question.. shouldn't there be a nice and fast pie chart.. or is this just on xfce?)

Do the
 df -h
since it's super fast!

Also...

Select from the menu at the top of your screen:
  - System / Adminstration / System Monitor
  - Select the File Systems tab
