in terminal iam not getting proper editing keys eg up down left right and insert keys are showing some different meanings

as usually iam using ubantu in vm ware but while writing my c or cpp code on terminal iam facing problems like
iam not getting insert key to insert and while writing into terminal proper edition is not showing
while pressing scorrol up down key iam getting like

You can use the right mouse lick to paste into the terminal.

what is the output of the command

echo $TERM
