Unable to install Skype program

Asked by alimo

I downloade the correct file from the Internet. Name of the file is (skype-debian_2.0.0.72-1_i386.deb).
Tried to use Terminal. I got Error message " error processing skype-debian_2.0.0.72-1_i386.deb
package architecture (i386) does not match system (amd64)
Errors were encountered while processing:
my system is AMD64. I do not know how to install this program?
The program is not listen in the Add/remove programs.
I also tried Synaptic Package Manager, I got same error.

Please simply add the medibuntu https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu repository to install Skype.

-- Please open a Terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type or copy and paste:

sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/hardy.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list

-- give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter

Then type or copy and paste:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get update

You may be asked to accept this package even though it cannot be authenticated. This is normal; typing "Yes" means you trust Medibuntu.

Then type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install skype

Hope this helps

Ok on medibuntu there is only 32 bit skype release so please try Sam Cater suggestion.
I regulary use 32 bit Ubuntu on 64 bit pc without any issue, Ubuntu 64 bit have many issue with proprietary apps like Skype.

Hope this helps
