How can i install the Virtual Guest Additions from Virtualbox on a Virtual Ubuntu?

I have Ubuntu 8.04 installed on a Virtualbox Machine. How can i install the Guest Additions? I`m a Linux Greenhorn, and have no Idea, how to install any program here.
What i got is: the Iso File is mounted in the CD-ROM and there is a file called VBoxLinuxAdditions.run.

Hi Duncan,
my answers to your questions:
1. The Ubuntu starts very well in the Virtual Machine (i have Virtualbox and not VmWare)
2. thanks for the link, but i do not have VmWare

Problem:
i have not any idea, how to install this virtualbox Additions from the CD. i`m a dummy windows user (maybe you know: cklick on the setup.exe in the CD directory and the installprocess is running). so - how can i start the setup on the Virtualbox Iso (called vboxlinuxadditions.run) from the cd. The iso file ist mounted in the CD-Rom device.

Try to run the VBoxLinuxAdditions.run file as an executable. If it refuses to execute try giving it the execute flag:

  chmod +x VBoxLinuxAdditions.run

Then run it with sudo privileges:

  sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
