abbreviate prompt title

O.K. I know I don't have the lingo down. However, you know the $ prompt; all of that stuff that comes before it can get so long that I have to maximize the terminal emulator's window to be able to write a command.

There must be a simple remedy for this.

The prompt is set in the ~/.bashrc script
