check to ensure that you dont have caps lock turned on since the password is case sensitive. if you continue to have an issue what I would do next is boot into recovery mode and change the password for your user account by issuing the command:
passwd <your_username>

you will be prompted to provide a new unix password and again to confirm it. after that reboot into your normal installation and see if that clears up the problem.

Thank you!
Problem solved. I don't remember if caps lock turned on, but now the password is right.
Excuse me for my English.

I am a new linux user. How do I reboot into recovery mode to change my password. Ultimately what I want to do is to install the standard microsoft fonts so I can use them on open office ( Version openoffice.org 2.4, Ubuntu 8.04). Would you please tell me the process step by step. Thank you.

I am new to the ubuntu 9.04 environment, I do say I like this operating system except I have a bug or problem that needs to be fixed asap. Is regarding my password; first I wanted to say that my unix password has an Authentication token manipulation error. This explains why I could not use it in the terminal command line, please help.

Sincerely: Cesar Gonzalez
PS: my ubuntu 9.04 is installed on my playstation 3 system
