Need help loading NVIDIA driver

Asked by Kurt on 2007-01-06

I am trying to install, but when I double click on the nvidia-installer, nothing happens.

I have also tried the command line type commands to run and install it to no avail.

Please inform about this running it as a 'root' command as well.

Any help, please be detailed and step by step since I am very new (first time to linux) to this

Perhaps I jumped the gun. My real issue is that when I scroll down a web page, the scroll is choppy. I assumed that the driver, or lack thereof, was causing this behavior.

What do you think??

The performance of the binary driver is indeed better at the expense of freedom and potentially security. What driver are you using right now? If you go to Applications --> Accessories --> Terminal and type the following:-

grep nv /etc/X11/xorg.conf | grep Driver

If you see "nvidia" then you have the binary nvidia driver. If you see "nv" then you have the open source driver. If you have nv and you want to try the binary nvidia driver I would recommend you check that page I mentioned:-
