inserting password into VLC download

i am trying to download VLC for Ubuntu 8.10 and when it asks for my password I cant seem to be able to insert it

Ubuntu 8.10 is end of life and not supported by the Ubuntu community or Canonical.

Please upgrade to a newer release. I suggest you use Xenial (Ubuntu 16.04) which is LTS and supported til April 2021.
