Hi actionparsnip this is an error message at the top of my screen the system is telling me what problems it is having.......... "An error occured,pleas run package manager from the right click menu or APT-GET in a terminal to see what is wrong.
the error message was:Error opening the catch(E encountered a section with no package:with no header,:E problem with mergelist/var/lib/apt/list/ca.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dist_precise-updates_multiverce_binary-i386_packages,E:the package list or status file could not be parsed or opened,): this usually means that your installed packages have unmet dependencies.
                      if you could pleas get back to me actionparsnip at your convenience my O/S is in such mess, thanks in advance, Alan

Hi actionparsnip here is a further follow-up firefox works,although the main search address bar does not work,I have to use the upper address bar, to surf. rhythm box works , the command shell works but really badly, the background turns white when I am writing on it,and I have to Fidel with it to get it to work, and that is it. I can see only the output of "lsb_release -a" and "sudo apt-get update", but not the results of "uname -a" and "sudo apt-get upgrade". Please provide these that we can check.
