Terminal Problem

Asked by James Musser

Ever since I loaded Quantal my name on Terminal has changed. It was jim2772-laptop when using Precise but now is jim2772@jim2772-laptop. I can not use the password with the new name.

What has made Terminal to change the name. How can I get it back to jim2772-laptop so I can use the password??

Jim

Change the name of what? The username or the system name?

When you use sudo you will not get any feedback in the terminal, just type as if it did and it will work :)

Change the name used in terminal. The sign in name and password works fine. Somehow the name in Terminal was changed.

When I go in Terminal and type in sudo apt- get clean it calls for my password which does not work with the present name. How can I change the Terminal name to one that accepts my password. It always worked fine under Precise.

sudo doesn't give feedback, just so you are aware, the text is being accepted. If you run:

su name

change 'name' to the name of a user which can use sudo, then you can then use the command you expect.

su name = unknown id

This is why I can't use the password. Thename in Terminal is not my name.

How can I change it??

Its the name you use, 'name' is just a placeholder. Think about it...
