Launcher icon direct to terminal tabs?

Asked by Fred H Olson

Not a question as much as a suggestion.

I just had an idea that seems like it would be handy. It probably does not merit
high priority but I'll describe it... I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 with Unity 2D
I typically have 3 or more terminal tabs open, the first dedicated to my text editor
and the second to ssh to my ISP and the others to misc use.
I have a Launcher icon (on left near top of display) to the gnome-terminal.
I often come to the terminal via the launcher icon from another app to
get to a specific tab and have to select the desired tab once there.
If the Launcher icon had 4 sections corresponding to the first 4 open
tabs one could aim the mouse better to get directly to the desired
tab. The icon sections would not need to be labeled to be useful.

Certainly not a big deal but would be neat. I have no idea if
launcher icons could reasonably do this and probably would not really
be a gnome-terminal development issue (a Unity issue?) but the terminal
is the context in which I thought of it. A similar firefox icon to
select a particular tab would not work as well for me since I have 12+
tabs open typically and the icon could not be divided that much.
