Unable to use terminal as a cisco console

Hi,
I try to connect my cisco router to ubuntu terminal so that i can do changes in my router. but terminal is not showing anything from router. it works fine in windows. i am using USB to Serial adapter to connect to my PC.
I think i need to change some terminal settings (bit rate etc.) but couldnt find much options to do all desire settings.
I am new to Ubuntu and may be doing something wrong.
Please help me.

When most people talk about the terminal in Ubuntu they mean an interface to the unix command line. This is similar to the DOS box in Windows.

By default there is no serial terminal software installed but you can add one easily enough
