Gnome terminal 3.1.1 doesn't display any text or commands.

Asked by Scott Brackeen

Gnome terminal 3.1.1 doesn't display any text; and interestingly, neither does Byobu terminal. Laptop is an old toshiba a65-s126, celeron 2.8 mghz. cpu. I think this is the x386 design (?) 1 gigabite of ram. hard drive Fujitsu 60 gigabites. Running ubuntu 12.04 l.t.s. 32 bit, with the xfce desktop environment. Linux kernel 3.2.0 generic. Gnome 3.4.2. Interesting issue. Anyone had this problem? Any good ideas? Thanks for your time.

Can you give the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; apt-cache policy gnome-terminal

If you use a terminal a lot, I can recommend you install guake.
