Terminal wont accept user name or password

Asked by Marjorie Smith

The gnome terminal will not accept my user name or passwd or even print any letters at all. I have consulted many books and magazines, but my system will not work as they describe. How can I check my passwds? They are accepted for logging in and authentication. Thanks some help would be welcome. Marjorie. p.s. I think the O>S. should work as the books say it will, and it does not.

If you mean when you use 'sudo' this is normal, you will not get any feedback when you use sudo. If you want a pretty GUI just use gksudo instead of sudo. This is traditionally used for running GUI apps with extra access but can be used for command line apps too.

Can you help with this problem?
