Flash Player in Gutsy

Asked by Lampoman

I am completely new to Gusty (I've been running the program from a disk for 2 nights now)...

I'm not able to view a movie clip...

I get the message that I need to install a plug-in for x-shockwave-flash...but it can't automatically find one...

Can you please help? And please remember I'm completely brand-new to this...

If you are still using the live CD this probably won't be too useful, but if you want to watch anything Flash related you will need to open up the add/remove tool (applications - add/remove...) and change the show box to say all available and then search for flash. Check it and apply. There are actually several things most people want to use that for legal reasons are not included in the CD or the install. Most of the info you need is on the wiki.

Any site that needs shockwave, however, will not be viewable since there isn't a shockwave player for Linux (at least there wasn't last time I checked).

hello

if you go, using firefox, to a page that use Flash animation's, like youtube, (for example) you can install the flash plug-in directrly from here. going to the link to download it automatically, this link is just where the animation must be.

Ok, you should select the adobe flash player, the installation is automatically

Also, if you like, you can install it manually:

sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

doing that, you will can use the flash plugin

hope this help

Lampoman- you would first have to run sudo apt-get update

However, there is a bug with flashplugin-nonfree that you will soon encounter. See Bug 173890 and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=636397
