Press CTRL+ALT+F2 or F3
give login info and type lsb_release -a; uname -a (Paste this output here)

then

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Press CTRL+ALT+F7 (to go back to gnome)

Press CTRL+ALT+T (Open a terminal )

Hopefully it will work for you and if not please revert back)

Im brand new to this so please be patient.I was able to get as far as where you asked to paste output here. There i was lost. The mouse wont allow paste so i continued entering code but without success. If you could be more explicit and dont worry about it if you tallk to me like a child because thats how i feel with this software.
