How to change the machine name?

The Gnome terminal shell prompt is in the form username@machinename. Can I change the computer name? How can I change the machinename part, please?

From terminal edit the hostname file
gksu gedit /etc/hostname

After you make your edit. Save the file. You will need to reboot to have change take effect.
