Proxy server authentication failure when I try to update 7.1

Asked by junyah

I was going to load Java into my computer and when I went into the terminal and typed su and hit return. It said password ,, so i entered the admin password and it gave me the phase authentication failure. What could I be doing wrong?

I'm kinda new at this but I love the software cuz it gave new life to my old laptop. P3 512 Ram Dell Inspiron 2500. I'm on disability so the free computer software on a free computer and free internet .. helps a lot.

In my case when I enter the password in the Terminal window, it seems that the keyboard freezes. Any letter or number that I enter seems to have no effect. Any idea?

The keyboard do not freeze. It is just a security feature that turns off "echoing" when you type your password. So even if you don't see the ubiquitous * (star), your password is read normally.
